Saturday 25th July is Vale Challenge Day and Community Picnic. There’s something for everyone and to help you plan your day here’s what you need to know.
Start at Castle Pool at 9am with
9.00am Amanda Cutler and Ray Goodwin welcome Active Arts and West Midlands Fire Service to the Pool
9.05am Aqua Zumba Challenge
10am-12pm Set yourself your own Swim Challenge during public swim time
All are welcome to take a dip whether conquering a width or swimming a mile.
11/11.30am Commander Steve Vincent will swim in full rescue gear (minus helmet and wellies)
Lord Mayor, Councillor Ray Hassell will attend and be welcomed by Amanda Cutler.
11.15-1pm Ducklings and Saturday Session members challenges and session
1pm-3pm PUBLIC SWIM all ages – normal charges apply
£2 to take part in the Swim Challenge – Usual charges for public swim
Special rate for those taking part in both Challenge and public swim
PLUS WEST MIDLANDS ROAD CASUALTY REDUCTION TEAM PROVIDING ADVICE
Then make your way to Farnborough Fields and Vale Stadium where you can find
11am Youngstars Carboot and Fun Zone opens with bargains to be had and lots of fun on a range of inflatables (small charges apply)
12pm-1pm Run Challenge for those who’d like a go at the 5k run challenge with 3 laps round the field
1pm-2pm Walk Challenge for those who’d like to take a more gentle approach to the 5k course
12-2pm Assault Course Challenge – Positive Forces will put you through your paces either in teams or individual tasks on the course
12pm-2pm Active Parks will get you involved in a number of fun sports activities and highlight how the outdoor multi-gym can be used
12-3pm the Youth Team from CVCRS will be on hand to run old fashioned sports events with the Egg & Spoon Race, Three-Legged Race, Sack Racing and Tug of War. Plus they will have the boxing equipment for people to try.
12-3pm the Community Environmental Trust will be leading craft activities using locally sourced natural materials
12-3pm Knits & Pieces will be displaying work from the last 2 years with the Candy Cottage through to the most recent award winning knitted garden. Plus at the Challenge Sign-Up desk Active Arts will have information of a range of local groups that you can get involved in to be active in your community.
1-3pm Live Music from african jazz fusion band ARFBI and choir singing from the Castle Vale New Testament Church of God
PLUS COMMUNITY PICNIC – bring your own picnic and also buy drinks from Vale Stadium, snacks from across the site and Caribbean food at the picnic area.
All challenges, sports and craft activities are free but we’d hope you’ll make a donation on the day or use the opportunity to raise sponsorship for a charity or local group of your choice.
Challengers will receive a certificate and medal (first 100) plus prizes from Active Parks of 24x coke football’s, and 70x £5.00 sportswear vouchers
We’re going to bring out the sun in this day that is about getting together, having fun and raising money for charities and good causes.
