I had the opportunity to visit the Cube in the Square today, for those of you (like me) who didn’t know about this venue it was a chance to see a lively, buzzing, space above Wilton St market in Erdington. I had been invited by a colleague Angie Chapman to see the current exhibition using Archive material and new artwork from the local area.
It was a total surprise to open the unimposing double doors at the top of the stairs to be greeted by a stage performance by local children, another group of children enjoying a huge table full of art supplies and producing their own exhibition pieces, Angie was busy running this group so was only able to point me in the right direction to see everything else on show.
The limited space is full of individual studios where local artists are able to rent workspace and they are a fascinating mix of different media. The Cube is open to the public on Tuesdays and Saturdays and the link is http://www.thecubeinthesquare.com
I highly recommend a visit if you are in the Erdington area, they are setting up a real boost to local arts. There are refreshment available too!
