Autumn programme

Quick bulletin to tell you about opportunities to take part in art activities here in Castle Vale this autumn.

Photography-opportunity for young (aged13-19) and older people (aged 55+) residents of Castle Vale.

  • Who are you?
  • What do you like to do?
  • Who are your friends, family, people you like/dislike?
  • What’s it like in Castle Vale?

Tell us about “me, you & everything else” through your photographs- it’s the story of you!

Be part of a printed publication and exhibition of photographs, in Castle Vale and beyond.

Meet the professional photographers who will be running photography workshops-from ideas of what to take and how to take the pictures that will tell your story, to the practicalities of uploading, editing and printing your photos.

For young people who are interested, come along to

The Sanctuary on Tuesday 12th October, 7pm

For older people who are interested, come along to

Phoenix Court on Friday 10th September, 3pm

The project takes place between September and December 2010 (incl. 4 full days in October half-term for young people), and again in the new year to prepare the exhibition.

There is no cost involved and you don’t need your own camera- but if you have a camera on your phone you can use that.

You will need your parent/guardians’ permission if you are under 16 years of age.

Dance- opportunity for young people (aged 16+) to take part in workshops and professional performances with the Birmingham Opera Company.

For the second year running, Birmingham Opera Company will be working with the Youngstars performing arts group in Castle Vale this autumn, running a series of dance workshops at the Astral Centre to create several dance performances within their next production, The Wedding, in a city centre professional production.

  • No previous dance experience required, just enthusiasm and commitment.
  • It’s for boys and girls over 16 – we do mean boys too!
  • We already have a group of Castle Vale’s finest young men lined up- they took part in the opera production last year and enjoyed it so much they are back for more!
  • Be part of a professional opera production, The Wedding, in a Birmingham city centre venue in November.

To take part, come along to the first workshop session at

The Astral Centre on Wednesday 22 September,

6-8pm

The project takes place between September & November 2010, with regular sessions on Wednesday evenings at the Astral Centre. There will be additional rehearsal sessions (some weekend days, some evenings) in the city centre venue in November, and performances on 19-21 November.
